PhD Programme

Introduction

Cutting edge research in all subjects of MEL continuously finds its way to the classroom, thus guaranteeing the quality and innovativeness of the educational programmes developed within MEL. A well-balanced team of post-doctoral and PhD students is involved in a number of current projects in the forefront of maritime economics and logistics research. These projects are related to, and interact with, the thesis research that MEL graduates are carrying out as part of their studies.

The SmartPort project at Erasmus University is specifically focused on port-related research: the Port Professors from the Schools of Economics, Management, Law and Social Sciences are actively working with PhD students to generate valuable new knowledge with a specific focus on the Rotterdam port cluster.

PhD Programme

The MEL staff encourages talented MEL students to consider a PhD in maritime economics. In interaction with the potential supervisor, the student can then develop a research proposal as the basis for his/her PhD application. PhD candidates are expected to participate in the ERIM research school.

An external PhD project (i.e., outside the scope of the ERIM research school) can be considered only in the case of truly exceptional candidates.
