IAME Conference Best Paper Award
4th and 6th of July, 2007

The International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) held its annual (2007) conference in Athens between 4 and 6 July 2007.

The Prize for the best conference paper went to M. Magala and A. Sammons (Australia) for their paper “A new approach to port choice modeling”. Judged by an international jury, the Prize (consisting of a trophy; certificate; and $750 check) was awarded at the closing ceremony by Professor Haralambides, Editor-in-Chief of Maritime Economics and Logistics (www.palgrave-journals.com/mel).

A $500 Prize for the runner up paper was awarded by Professor Peter Marlow of Cardiff University to Robert Cochrane of Imperial College, London, for his paper “The effects of market differences on the throughput of large container terminals with similar levels of efficiency”.  The paper was sponsored by BIMCO, the largest international shipowners’ association and partner of MEL.

Both papers will be published in a MEL special issue to appear February 2008.

MEL warmly congratulates all three authors and wishes them more future successes like these.
