The SMF-MEL
Maritime Scholarship (for Postgrads)
The SMF-MEL Maritime Scholarship is a joint collaboration between the Singapore
Maritime Foundation (SMF) and the Center for Maritime Economics and Logistics
(MEL) of Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
The Scholarship epitomizes and solidifies the good and long-standing cooperation
between the SMF and MEL, and aims to attract young outstanding talent to the
maritime industry as well as to raise awareness on the importance of maritime
transport for the global economy and international trade. The SMF-MEL
Scholarship is being offered for the Master of Science (MSc) in Maritime
Economics and Logistics (MEL), conducted by Erasmus University Rotterdam, The
Netherlands.
Two scholarships will be offered. Each scholarship will cover the following:
a.
The full tuition fee at Erasmus University Rotterdam;
b.
A one time return economy airfare as well as an allowance to
help defray living costs in The Netherlands.
The scholarship is
awarded based on merit.
Eligibility
Applicants for the scholarship should have studied at the
Singapore Management University (SMU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS).
In addition, they should have a history of outstanding academic results and a
good record of co-curricular activities. A keen interest in contributing to the
maritime industry is an advantage. MEL eligibility criteria and admissions
procedures are applicable, as described in this website.
The scholarship is only open to Singaporeans with at least a Second Upper
Honours degree.
Commitment of obligation
The successful applicant will not be required to serve a bond with the SMF upon
graduation. However, he/she will be required to indicate commitment to work in
the maritime industry in, and/or for the benefit of, Singapore for 3 years upon
graduation.
Application for Scholarship
The SMF-MEL Maritime Scholarship is open for application for the academic year
commencing November 2006 at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Applicants must not hold any other scholarship, bursary or study loan.

About Singapore Maritime Foundation
The Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) is a private sector-led organisation
that works in partnership with different sectors of the maritime industry and
relevant government agencies to promote and develop Singapore as an
international maritime centre. Established in January 2004, the SMF is directed
by a Board and supported by a permanent secretariat. It has also established an
Advisory Panel which comprises industry practitioners.
About the Erasmus Center for Maritime Economics and Logistics
The Erasmus Center for Maritime Economics and Logistics (MEL) is an
inter-faculty scheme of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). The Center is part
of both the Rotterdam School of Economics and the Rotterdam School of
Management. The Center's objectives are to offer postgraduate and executive,
in-company, educational programmes in Maritime Economics and Logistics and to
constitute a focal research point in that field at Erasmus University Rotterdam
(EUR).
